Cancun, Mexico

ur friends and neighbors, Pete and Wendy, celebrated their 20 year wedding anniversary this year. They asked us to go with them to Cancun Mexico to celebrate. We couldn't pass up the opportunity. We had never been to Cancun before, only Mazatlan. We had such a great time. I love the beach we stayed on and we ate a lot of yummy Mexican food. The picture above is Abby and I at the airport when we arrived. Abby was only three months old and I was nursing so she got to come along. She is such a good baby, it was no big deal.
This is a picture of Josh and I at a restaurant called "El Shrimp Bucket" Pete really wanted to eat here, it did not look or sound appealing to me, however, I did end up liking it. That is after I sent back my first entree of Shrimp cocktail and ordered the crab cakes. They also had (instead of chips and salsa) hard corn tortillas to dip in a bucket of different sauces, it was yummy!
This is the white sand beach that our hotel was on.
The first morning we were on our vacation, these little sea turtles were born on the beach right by our hotel. The mothers make nests in the sand on the beach where they lay their eggs. When the eggs hatch the hotel takes them to a safe spot until nighttime, then they let them go. When set free the little baby sea turtles run straight to sea.

One day we traveled a little way and visited Xcaret. It is a tourist attraction by where we were. It was really neat. It is like a wildlife park or an amusement park without the rides, although there was a couple boat rides. There was snorkeling, beaches, animals, swimming with the dolphins, shows, hiking through rain forests, and more.

This is where we snorkeled at Xcaret, I even got a turn while Josh watched Abby. It was really fun, Wendy and I snorkeled over by where they did swimming with the dolphins and watched, there was a fence between us, but it was really neat being able to watch while in the water with them.
On Pete and Wendy's actual anniversary date we had dinner at Ruth's Chris. That's where this picture was taken. It was yummy food!
One of the days we spent on an excursion to "Isle of the Ladies", a little private island. It was a very interesting and fun experience. We bought the tickets from a man on the beach by our hotel and quickly realized that we were on the party boat to the island. It was entertaining to say the least. We had to take a bus to a different beach to get on the boat that was taking us to the island. The beach where we boarded our boat was full of naked or half naked people....most of which were old people and gay people. Once on the boat the party began with lots of people drinking and getting drunk and then making fools of themselves, but it kept us entertained for the boat ride. We saw some really pretty sea turtles out in the ocean while traveling over to the island.
Before we arrived to the island, everybody got off the boat and snorkeled, except me of course, I stayed on the boat with Abby.
This picture was taken from the "Isle of the Ladies" There was a little beach where we ate lunch and could order as many pina coladas as we wanted.
Josh had a regular, but my Coca Cola Light is on the left....one of my most favorite things about Cancun.
After we had our fill on the beach we walked around and shopped on the island. At this point we had ditched the "Party" boat group and did our own thing. We found this cute little italian/pizza restaurant and ate there. It was delicious! And really fun, we ate outside and watched people walking by and shopping.
The view from my favorite spot....THE BEACH! The water was the most amazing color and the white sand was sooo warm and soft on your feet.
The Royal Mayan is where we stayed. I really liked it. It was older, but very well kept up. It was very clean and comfortable. We also had access to any of the Royal resorts, and there were newer ones that we could use their facilities. The Royal Sands was just a little bit down the road and only a few years old.
This is a very large crocodile in the water, we are looking down on it from the patio of one of the restaurants we ate at.

There were hammocks and lounge chairs for R&R on the beach. I am sipping on some Coca Cola Light. That is what they call it in Mexico and it tastes way different there. It is delicious! It tastes more like regular coke, but its light.
